The excitement is really starting to build as we close in on Thursday and Michigan’s first trip to the Frozen Four since 2008(24th overall an NCAA record). It hasn’t been easy to get to this point but Michigan has been able to hang strong behind brilliant goaltending by former walk-on Shawn Hunwick. The Wolverines will have their biggest test of the season against #1 seed North Dakota who served up Denver to get to the Frozen Four.
Just like the rest of this tournament Michigan will not have an easy time with the high scoring line of Matt Frattin, Brad Malone, and Evan Trup. But Michigan’s stingy Defense and Goaltending should be one of the best Defenses this team has seen all year (6th overall). Michigan also has tons of depth on offense which has proven to have helped stump other defenses all season. An opposing team could attempt to take out UMs 2 top offensive players Carl Hagelin(48 point) and Louie Caporusso but the Wolverines have such great offensive depth that we would still have one of our 9 players this season with 20 points or more take over the scoring.
In the end I think the Wolverines will be able to shutdown North Dakota”s first line, much like they did against Colorado College and use their high scoring offense and defense to upset the Sioux and return to the National Championship!
