I like many Fans have been watching the recruiting process unfold with growing optimism that not only will the class be salvaged but has an outside shot of cracking top 25 on a few lists. At the very least, I expect it to be top 30, which is much lower than the historic trend but much better than the doomsday predictions that were thrown around during the coaching search. The majority seem to agree with me on that, but I’ve been surprised by the number of people that question why we aren’t landing more 4 and 5 star commits. I just have one question; what the hell were you expecting? You don’t land 5 star recruits when your coach was hired with very few weeks left in the recruiting time period. I’m not going to go too far into this, mainly because if you don’t get that now I doubt a reasoned argument would change your mind. Anyway, let’s talk a little about the commits of Tuesday
QB TX Russell Bellomy: Is it bad that I just love Snake Oiling players from Purdue. I hope we can start to make it a tradition. Speaking of hope, I have heard rumors that Coach Hope was furious about the news. I don’t have anything concrete but I imagine that to be the case which really made my day. As for Bellomy, I love the fact that this coaching staff went after a “Dual Threat” QB. Leaves me optimistic this staff will look to be a more up to date pro-style offense.
LB OH Antonio Poole: He is on the record as saying that one of the reasons he picked Michigan was because he wanted to be part of The Game, and take out much of his dislike of OSU on the field. That’s all I need to know to sell me on him.
CB MD Blake Countess: Well he was limp for a while there but now is back to being Hard on Michigan (hahahaha). Pretty much all our defensive recruits are important, Michigan needs play makers in the worst way, and Countess has the ability to help that need.
I know I said I wasn’t going to go into the few negative speakers out there on the recruiting class so far but let me end with a tweet today from recruiting analyst TomVH: “Michigan’s recent commitments have put them at #22 in avg. stars per recruit, behind only Nebraska and OSU in the Big Ten per Rivals.”
