Recruiting Rants and Raves 1/20

We haven’t talked much recruiting mainly because of the coaching search that had hijacked all of the Michigan talk. It also really left Recruiting down to too much speculation if you ask me. Anyway, I’m looking forward to getting back in the grove of things with some rants and raves.

First, seems that Kellen Jones might be back to a solid commit with the hiring of Mattison, It’s definitely a good sign when he called up TomVH singing the Victors. As for Jake Fisher I know he got the in home visit and was getting a hard sell. I’m cautiously optimistic about keeping him.

Snake oil recruiting at its best, Michigan grabs the former Minnesota commit Tamani Carter (3 Star Scout) today. I’ve been hearing that because of the change in philosophy on defense that the Wolverines are going after more DBs because many of the Safeties the team has are mostly hybrids to that position. So when considering that you can understand this commitment and the visitors coming up in the next couple weeks. One visitor I wanted to touch on was LA DB Floyd Raven (3 Star Scout), honestly I don’t know much about the kid except he might have the best name in the entire recruiting class.

One kid that I have been following for a while now is In-State DB Raymon Taylor (3 Star Scout), he visits on 1/21 and if it goes as I am expecting he will to commit to Michigan. Not sure if he will do it then or wait until signing day but he has been high on Michigan for a long time now. Even Sam Webb of WTKA mentioned he might be having a gut feeling on the kid soon.

Changing topics a bit, a lot of questions have been coming in about Darrian Cooper. I would have loved to land this kid but I think fans need to move on. Coach Hoke had a visit with him, in which Cooper seemed to like the coach but not enough to change his mind to consider Michigan seriously again. If it goes this way with Cooper, I really hope this staff finds a way to add a DT to this class. I wouldn’t mind offering David Moala of Cali (3 Star Scout). I know he was offered by San Diego State, so I’m hoping he has a good relationship with Brady Hoke. Either way, we should see soon what this staff plans on doing about DTs in this class.
