- Let me start by saying Wisconsin is one of the best teams in the country, they don’t have to many glaring holes at any position. The Badgers bread and butter is power running, they are 8th in the country in rushing yards. But there is a brightish side here star RB John Clay will most likely be out for the game but backups James White and Montee Ball are no slouches. They have combined for 1227 yards and 20 TDs!!!
- If the Badgers have any weakness on offense it would be the passing game(73rd). But those stats are deceiving, Senior QB Scott Tolzien has been fairly solid this season with 15 TDs and only 5 INTs. They are not as bad as you may think, but by no stretch are they a force. The receiver core is a little thin and lacks depth and talent which is good for a wolverine secondary that is thin and lacks depth.
- The defense for the badgers has been strong as well allowing only 19.5 points a game(23rd). Unlike many units in the country who are led by one standout, Wisconsin is just a solid defense all around. Their strength is their huge DL led by J.J. Watt.
The Michigan O Line Vs. The Wisconsin D Line –Michigan’s offensive line has been fairly great this year allowing a big ten low in sacks. The line will have its hands full with the large Wisc. DL. This will truly be the old speed vs. power debate. If all goes as planned, DRob and Co. will find some space to run, beating the badgers to the corners and holes.
Michigan Offense Vs. Turnovers- Young teams like the wolverines have tendencies to turn the ball over. We have seen this all year, whether it be INTs or Fumbles, if the Maize and Blue want a chance in this game they are going to have to take care of the ball. When Michigan does not turn the ball over(and even when they do but limit the TO) the Wolverines offense is nearly unstoppable and will give the badgers slow defense fits all day
Michigan Defense- Alright D, its time to show if you have taken a step forward or if the Purdue game was a fluke. The defense as a whole played inspired against the Boilermakers stopping the run all day and keeping Purdue from scoring an offensive TD. Well they are going to get a healthy dose of the run on Saturday and if we can contain the RBs, we could really give the Badgers a run for their money. Note the move of Death Roh to DE and the Return of Martin and Trick or Treat Mouton will continue to help the development of our defense.
Well everyone on the planet is picking Wisconsin… Well not at Wolverines East. Michigan will commit to stopping the run early forcing a largely unproven Tolzien to win the game with his arm. On the other side of the ball Michigan will limit its turnovers, and the slow power defense will have no answer for the speed Laces and the Michigan O-line. This combination will allow the Wolverines to shock the world and steal a win from the tough Badgers.
It’s great to be able to continue to bring you a highlight this week from the RR Era(I think we all know what video this will be).
