Penn State Preview

  • Penn State’s offense has not been great this year led by Senior RB Evan Royster, the offense only average 128.7 rush yards a game, good enough for only 86th in the NCAA
  • If the RB play hasn’t been good the QB play has been more than suspect at times as well (71st in the land). Freshman Rob Bolden has taken the reins with D. Clark graduating but only managed 5 TD’s to his 7 INTS
  • As for the defense, it was certainly good at some point before the injury bug destroyed it. The well coached defense has still managed to limit the damage to only 18.4 points a game (22nd). It is important to note though that they did let Illinois drop 33 on them.

Key Match-ups:

Drob Vs. The World – Another week and another Drob Vs. As per the usual this season Drob has the ability to win a game by himself. He still leads the NCAA in Rushing and is in the top 10 in QB rating. In shoelaces limited time playing against Iowa he looked better throwing the ball and didn’t look like he was headed for another 3 pick performance. As Denard continues to improve, teams will have an even harder time stopping him.

Evan Royster vs. Michigan front 7 - This is the big match-up. If Michigan’s LBs and DL can contain Royster i can’t see how it won’t be a long day for the Nittany Lions. Royster was really supposed to carry the team this year and has yet to be spectacular. I expect the wolverines to stack the box and prevent Royster from going off; thus forcing one of the young QBs to make plays.

Michigan Vs. Themselves – We have beaten ourselves up the last few weeks. Int’s and Fumbles in the redzone have literally taken us out of the MSU and Iowa games. We need to limit these mistakes and win the turnover battle like we where doing earlier in the year. The defense also needs to limit the huge plays they have given up by getting in the right gaps, taking good angles, and Tackling.

Final Thoughts:

I am very confident going into Happy Vally. Although this is a road game, we match-up perfectly against PSU. I expect the Wolverines and Laces to come out and smoke the injury ridden Penn State defense. On the other side of the ball i expect Mike Martin and Co. to stack the line and stop Royster early forcing Bolden\McGloin\Newsome into bad throws and long down situations. We are healthy, we are pumped, and we are ready to turn our season around!!!

Go Blue!!!
